The Puebloan Palace

$4.99$34.99

Eight hundred years ago, tucked between the canyon floor and the high sandstone walls, they began construction. Construction on one of the most elaborate and sophisticated structures of its time. The Anasazi people built slowly and deliberately, perfecting the over 150 rooms that saturate the palace. Cliff Palace is unique as it’s one of the only known sites to be a social, administrative place used across many different families and tribes, mainly used for special ceremonies. Twenty-four different Native American tribes can trace their heritage back to this site, including the Hopi and Navajo people. The highlight of the Palace is Square Tower – to the far right of the picture. With four floors, it stands over 25 feet towering and protecting the surrounding area.

By the year 1300, Cliff Palace was abandoned without any known reason or cause. Some say famine and drought played a large factor while others say increasing competition drove the Anasazi elsewhere. This palace, tucked away in the Southwest corner of Colorado, symbolizes the power and knowledge the Ancestral Puebloans once had. What you see here is what is left today.
