Reflection

At this point, I’ve explored 11 states, driven 12,000 miles, and hiked another 450 that summer. I’d been on the road for 53 days now. I’d gone as far away from home as I’d go; now home will become closer and closer. Mount Rainier National Park in Washington was a perfect venue to look back on the amazing adventure I embarked on.

Bench Lake rises 700 feet above the road with an incredible view of Mount Rainier. On a perfect day, the sun shines bright and you’re able to see the jaw-dropping reflection of the pine trees over the water. In mid-summer, this area explodes with a variety of wildflowers and an abundance of bear grass. In the fall, mountain ash and huckleberries color the scene.

Reflecting on the trip, I’m proud of what I’ve done. Regardless of the outcome, every decision has led me to who I am today. I learned to be independent and open-minded to the world around me. Think about something you’ve always wanted to do. Do it. What’s holding you back? Don’t let it. Reflect.
