Old Reliable

Every 5-7 hours, no matter what, Riverside Geyser shoots steam and water nearly 75 feet into the air. The Firehole River catches what falls, and the process starts all over again. Riverside Geyser is one of the most predictable geysers in the park, because it is not located near any other geysers that may disrupt the flow of underground water in the geyser’s plumbing.

This geyser is one of the most reliable geysers in Yellowstone, despite the moniker and reputation of the better-known Old Faithful. In my opinion, this was much more intriguing and awe-inspiring than Old Faithful. I had to hike a bit away from the tens of thousands waiting for Old Faithful, which made it spectacle that much better. Instead of jostling elbows to get a view, Riverside Geyser had maybe 20 people near it at the time of eruption. Check it out!
