After hiding from the dreary rain of the Hoh Rainforest in Olympic National Park, I went on a hike through the Hall of Mosses. It was so quiet – I only heard the water dripping off the leaves of the trees. I turned a corner and saw this incredible Roosevelt Elk grazing in solitude. Olympic National Park is home to the largest unmanaged herd of Roosevelt Elk in the Pacific Northwest. Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, they are the largest variety of elk in North America. Seeing this giant serves a reminder that even through ugly weather and conditions, treasure is still not far behind.
