Educate

The quaint town of Trinidad, CA is home to many different attractions. Ten public beaches stretch as far as the eyes can see. Gigantic herds of elk also call this area home. I stayed in campground on the outskirts of town, so close to both the ocean and the elk. I woke up in the morning and my neighbors asked if I heard everything. I asked back confused, “What are you talking about?” They showed me a picture of my tent early that morning with two huge bull elk grazing right next to it while I was sleeping!

Stone Lagoon School is on the property of the campground in which I stayed. All the information given was a sign that read: “Stone Lagoon Schoolhouse (1893-1958)”. I imagine students being distracted by elk grazing where recess was held. Education and conversation allowed this place to exist. Standing today, it serves as a reminder of how far we’ve come.
