Christian Brevoort Zabriskie was a hard-working and adventurous man. In his early years, he worked as a telegrapher, carpenter, and mortician, until he eventually fell into the mining industry. As vice president of the Pacific Coast Borax Company, he brought and expanded borax mining to the Death Valley region. He used 20 mules to haul tons of borax over 160 miles to the nearest railroad, thus the term 20 Mule Team was coined. Borax, in short, is essentially a natural laundry detergent and helps clean and remove stains. You can still find 20 Mule Team Borax in groceries stores today – more than 120 years later.

Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park stands in remembrance to honor a man who devoted many years of dedicated service to the Pacific Coast Borax Company. He died just three years after his retirement, in 1936.
