Ansel’s Tunnel

I had a lot of anticipation getting into Yosemite National Park. Pictures of this place inspires awe and wonder; I just knew I had to see for myself. I drove the windy Wawona Road until reaching a tunnel and the light abrupted into darkness. I knew what was on the other side of this mountain – I’ve seen the landscape a million times. However, nothing could prepare me for how incredible the view really is. Reaching the end of the tunnel, the sun was so bright like coming out of a movie theater into the light after many hours. It made the moment of seeing the view for the first time that much better.

Ansel Adams spent most of his adult life in Yosemite Valley, photographing every nook and cranny of the area. Adams first visited Yosemite in 1916 when he was 14 years old. On that trip, he hopped up on a tree stump to take a photo of Half Dome, then stumbled, headfirst, and accidentally pushed the shutter release. The upside-down image remained one of Adams’s favorites, he wrote in his autobiography. Tunnel View was one of his best works showing the differences between seasons and capturing so much beauty in black and white. Ansel Adams inspired my photos in hopes to replicate some of the beauty he inspired. This one is for you, Ansel.
