A Place of Rock and Water

Most of us today know very little about Native American culture. We were thought in school about the Trail of Tears and, well, that’s really about it. Did you know that in 2018 there were 573 federally recognized Native American tribes? Along with the Navajo, Hopi, and Comanche Reservations, there is a more lesser known tribe of the Southern Ute. Living in present-day Colorado and Utah, they’ve become successful in both the oil and gambling industries. The native Ute language is still spoken on the reservation today.

Tomichi in the Native Ute language means “A place of rock and water.” Rivers, mountains, and this lookout point have adopted the same name. Tomichi Point in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is one of the first lookout along the South Rim. The dramatic, steep vertical cliff walls with the rushing Gunnison River at the bottom provides an awe-inspiring start to this hidden gem of a national park. We currently offer three different sizes:

  • 4″ x 6″
  • 5″ x 7″
  • 8″ x 10″

Along with the three size options we offer a framed option as well. Each frame is a classic black wooden frame that looks incredible with these black & white photos.
