Water’s Edge

The day before this photo was an exhausting day. Glacier National Park is home to over 700 miles of hiking trails with every intensity on the spectrum. I wanted to push myself, so I decided to do the Highline Trail starting at Logan Pass to the loop – 18 miles in total. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I hiked to remote glaciers, had lunch with mountain goats, and encountered a mama grizzly and her cubs. By the end of the night as I got back to camp, my legs felt like literal jello and my feet wanted to find a new home…

The next morning my body was still hurting, so I decided to see the park from a different perspective – the water. Swiftcurrent Lake offered kayak rentals at a reasonable rate. It also helped that it was raining that day, so I essentially had the lake all to myself. I was on the lake for nearly three hours. In the tall grass in the picture you see here (in front of the trees), there was a mother moose with her baby. I was told by another kayaker that they were over there so I rushed over to the area as fast as I could. I was too late but I waited her for a good while, just for a chance to see them along the water’s edge.
